Do you need a Family Office or a dedicated Chief Investment Officer for your family?
Is a fully-fledged family office necessary, or could a dedicated Chief Investment Officer (CIO) suffice? The key differences between a family CIO and a family office lie in their scope, structure, level of customisation, cost, and the degree of control they offer.
Aussie investors quietly cash in: The rise of hands-off stakes in private businesses
Australian investors are increasingly turning their attention to passive investments in unlisted private equity, but the shift toward private equity has now extended to investments in private businesses.
The shift is driven by increasing investor sophistication, a focus on passive strategies and advancements in technology making identification and investments in unlisted businesses more accessible.
'Looking East': Investment Opportunities
Not investment Advice
It has been a quiet holiday period among investment opportunities, with many roadshows and manager visits deferred to somewhat 'traditional' post-Australia Day starter's gun.
Here are some of those that I have had the opportunity to discuss with the managers prior to the break.
Monark Partners - Prime, high-yield and co-investment into Monark's Australian property development business
Edsemble - Early years educational book subscription service and childhood development management service business, from the founders of Edrolo.
Advance VC - Fund of secondary venture capital fund investments
Enduring Investments - "Boring Business Fund" of investments into small-medium Australian businesses.
Venture capital continues to be a talking point, although perhaps things are a little quiet in the tech sector with current investors being tapped for capital and few new funds raising capital. Having said that, a read on this market is difficult with the holiday festivities taking some precedence.
Enduring Investments have brought a similar approach to private equity as the previously mentioned Arbor Permanent, in the attraction of direct private equity for investors.

What is the real meaning of "Wealth Management"?
In a world of 'wealth management', few investment professionals truly have the opportunity to discover what it is that their clients perceive as 'the true meaning of wealth.'
The recently published Bequest Report from JB Were considered the five dimensions, first proposed by James (Jay) E Hughes Jnr., that supports families to positively contribute to society.
Perhaps this should be considered the real meaning of "wealth management"; one where wealth management is more than just financial?
The five dimensions are:
Human Dimension- physical and emotional health of the family
Intellectual Dimension- Continuous learning and personal growth
Social Dimension- building strong relationships within the family and community
Spiritual Dimension- Shared value and beliefs and a sense of purpose
Financial Dimension- The only quantitive dimension; Required to support the other four dimensions.
