Robert Carson was featured in the Family Business Association's "Ask The Advisor" series to answer the question "When's the right time to sell my business?"


With the celebration of National Family Business Day on 19 September 2025, family business owners who are thinking about the sale of their own business at some point in time are likely asking themselves the same question.



Most people assume it’s about the market, the right buyer at the right time and the right price. You might imagine there will be a moment when all the stars align, when the perfect economic and business cycles match your own life. But those stars rarely line up. If you wait for perfect certainty, you may end up waiting forever.
